Story Ideas

Dear Friends

We are very excited to welcome you to Block2Blog (B2B), the platform exclusively for to share stories at length.  This lockdown, may be a good opportunity to pen stories.

Judging from your snippets on Naval Base Facebook, we feel your stories deserve to be known in the collective memories of our children and future generations, because our lives and stories in H.M. Naval Base is a once in a lifetime experience.

As Yen King Ho recalls: “Next to being in Paradise is being in the Naval Base. No racism, all are like brothers and sisters"

More importantly if we do not document these memories they will be forever lost.

OUR OBJECTIVES

·        To invite friends of Naval Base to share stories about their experiences, the people, incidents, events that we remember.

·        The Backstory- how, who or what in Naval Base influenced or shaped you.

- how the different paths we took after the British pull-out brought us back together through social media.

WHAT ARE SOME STORY IDEAS?

Everyone has a unique story to tell, but to help kick- start B2B, here are some themes.

·        Festivals, seasonal pastimes e.g. kite flying, etc., etc.

·        Historical events

·        Hobbies, interest

·        Major events -The Naval Base and Firemen Strike

·        Many of us saw the moving movie “Love Story”, on reel.  But nothing beats real stories. So, relive your romance, share with us your True Love Story that blossomed in Naval Base.

·        Memorable visits: Queen Elizabeth’s, PM Lee Kuan Yew’s visit.

·        Social gatherings e.g.  Home parties

·        Sporting events - Tara Singh vs King Kong

·         Your “Kodak moments.”

·

OUR APPROACH

All your stories will be vetted for sensitivities and will NOT be uploaded without your prior approval.

We all grew up in the Base with a common understanding, practically living in each other’s homes. Just like our parents’ generation, we were blinded by CIMO.

Undoubtedly, we wish to continue the spirit of brotherhood and goodwill drawn from our common background and encourage the younger generation to partake in this effort.

So, this is just a gentle reminder:  no racial, religious, political slurs or unsavory remarks or content is permitted on Block2Blog.

We encourage everyone to take ownership and contribute to this effort.

Reproduction is prohibited other than with the expressed permission of the copyright holder.

We thank you for your support and look forward from hearing from you.

We are also looking for people who can help us manage our fledgling Blogsite .

Kind Regards

Ad Hoc Committee
